It is a sad commentary of our times when old favorite Mom and Pop
establishments begin to disappear only to be replaced with a giant
impersonal super something or other, or a very impersonal non-human
website.
Recent closures of Phil’s Gold and Diamonds last year and the
announcement of the soon to be closed Kakesako Bothers Jewelry store
mark this disheartening trend in the local jewelry industry.
A Unique Distinction
Long running Mom and Pop establishments have the unique distinction of
having a real personal touch as do most of these old style neighborhood
stores. Most of these businesses have over the years developed a loyal
following that have become more a friend than just a customer. There is
that feeling of a friend helping a friend in an area where you may not
have much expertise. A level of trust develops from being able to see
someone face to face. A greater appreciation is created as a mutual
benefit relationship grows. It is this warm human interaction that is
satisfying in so many different ways.
It’s Mission
These businesses are based on a solid tradition of service to
the customer, helping and making them happy is a prime purpose. Treating
you as a friend or part of the family is a true a local style expression
of service with a smile. Happy customers are a must.
Consumer Benefits
Remember when you were panicking because you almost forgot your
anniversary and were helped and saved by an understanding salesperson in
one of these stores. Or they will remember the different things that
your wife likes and helped you get that perfect birthday gift. They
might have even helped with providing great ideas on how one could
propose to make a most memorable engagement experience. What a wonderful
way to start a life together! These are experiences that many will not
have as more and more of these stores close.
We are losing is not just a place that we would have gone to buy
jewelry for those special occasions, engagements, anniversaries,
birthdays, graduations, and other special events, but a place where we
feel comfortable, where we could have gotten sound advice. There is that
trust that over the years have developed into a friendship that may have
felt becoming more like a family. As family these places need your
support. Help nurture these fine businesses that are still around,
appreciate and help keep this wonderful local tradition alive.
