You probably have but it is not necessarily a bad thing. It may have even kept you out of the doghouse. As in any industry there are trends. There is a trend of soft-selling diamond jewelry that is enduring and successful.

Take for example the simple diamond band; it is a diamond ring with small diamonds going across or around the band. This ring had been around for years. It was someone's great idea to create a name for the ring to increase sales. It was named the "Anniversary Diamond Ring". It is amazing what a simple change can accomplish. Now who would not know what to get on that momentous occasion?

This is the trend; create a name, a meaning, a purpose. Those of you who have proposed, when you were shopping for that diamond ring and were wondering how much you should spend, did you remember hearing a phrase that said "Isn't she worth three months of your salary?" Did you buy into it? Or was it modified to three month by the time you heard it? Did it affect your purchase?

This trend continues. A few years ago it was the three stone ring or pendant, a jewelry piece that represented the past, present and future of a relationship. This idea is filled with memorable, exciting images of a relationship, where it has been, where it is, and the wonderful prospect of where it can go. Any piece of jewelry that had three stones could be ascribed with this intent and inevitably give it a deeper meaning and appreciation.

Then there was the "I Forever Do", diamond anniversary rings that reaffirms a couple's love for each other. This is an update to the original anniversary band but adds a significant emotional meaning to the ring. In this day where relationships may not last the course, reaffirmation is an important milestone.

Just so no one is to be left out, for women who may not be married; there is the "right hand diamond ring". Women today are generally more professional than in the past holding positions that were the exclusive domain of men. Their role as women in the household is appreciated more than ever before. This piece of jewelry represents their accomplishments and independence.

Now there is the "Journey Jewelry" depicting the journey of love in a life shared. This symbol of love is a piece of jewelry that has at least four or more diamonds graduating in size to show how love grows stronger in time. There are different versions of pendants, rings and earrings, to satisfy anyone's taste. Journey Diamond Jewelry represents the celebration of this journey. This is a journey, a life of love one takes, the good times, the hard times, the bonding that develops through these experiences, like wine, only to get better with age.

After it is all said and done, do you feel you may have been tricked into purchasing any of these items by slick advertising? Is it important? Does it really matter? Does it express the emotion exactly as you intended it to have? Is there appreciation?

Jewelry is an article of enhancement whether is be visual, emotional or even spiritual. Appreciation is an individual assessment of the wearer and the reasons are personal and meaningful. So is it for the giver. If there is happiness, and relationships get stronger the world will be a better place. Life is a journey. Enjoy!
